Produce
Hidden Spring produces a small range of wines, ciders and apple and pear juices. All the produce is grown on our own farm. Our wines and cider are made to our specifications by Seddlescombe Vineyard. Our stock for sale at any one time is dependent on the previous seasons' harvest. Usually there is at least one cider, apple juices, and white wine. Honey from Chris's bees is often available, but sells out fast.
Our Jacob sheep, make excellent flavoured meat, which although we primarily produce for our family's use, we sell surplus on site. During the summer months, excess vegetables and eggs may be available.
In the past our orchards have been 'certified' by the soil association. Whilst we have taken the reluctant decision to de-register, due to the cost of registration, the way we manage our holding will not be affected.
We believe strongly in growing without the use of harmful pesticides and chemicals, so seek natural alternatives where we can. This is particularly important as our own produce forms a large part of our family's diet!
Growing and producing the above is time consuming, especially with a young family! Therefore 'shop' sales are available to campsite guests during 'office hours' or by request. Other sales are by prior arrangement only.
Please note that we do not have a staffed shop and although we welcome visitors to the farm to try our produce, if you do call up without notice we may be working elsewhere on the farm, picking up kids from school, or even, have gone out!
Due to other commitments we no longer offer 'formal' wine tastings. Those staying at Hidden Spring are welcome to try produce, please ask. If you are thinking of making a trip up to see us, please call or email ahead – and check what we have available.
There will be some card handling facility regarding payments for larger orders by 2012.
